The Apostle Paul writes to his favorite church, the one that had been faithful under persecution. He commends them like no other church of the first century, telling them that they are his “crown of rejoicing”, his example to the other churches. He said they gave him a reason to live and to continue his ministry.
In his first letter he comforts them concerning their dead loved ones by affirming the Rapture and second coming of our Lord. In his second letter, written about one year later, he corrects a false impression that the day of the Lord was at hand, and then gives them some of the most practical teaching found in the New Testament. Did you know that if a preacher doesn’t work he shouldn’t eat? How practical is that?
